Occupational Therapy Services (OT)
Occupational therapy services are provided using different clinical approaches, intensities, frequencies, and durations depending on the condition, prognosis, presenting problems, reason for referral, and other client/family related factors. Through a thorough assessment Advance Therapy Systems (ATS) is committed to providing the best occupational therapy practice to address the reason for referral or presenting problem. In order to achieve this, we believe our clinicians should be educated in several clinical approaches and techniques that are relevant to the presenting problems.
Thus, ATS clinicians often participate in continuing education opportunities locally and are also educated abroad. This is important because in order for an approach (or a combination of approaches) to work effectively, the clinicians must possess the knowledge and skills to do this with confidence. Our clinicians utilize different techniques and are certified in different approaches including Ayres Sensory Integration, Electrical Modalities, Splinting, Environmental Design, Perceptual Motor, Motor learning/Control, NDT (Bobath approach), Feeding/Oral motor control, Auditory based programs, Cognitive-Behavioral Techniques, Kinesiotaping and many other techniques and approaches commonly used in occupational therapy.
Based on the results of specific assessments or testing procedures we develop and implement an intervention program that is thoroughly discussed with the institution/caregivers/parents to achieve our clinical outcomes and that reflect the skilled used and blending of different approaches.
Early Intervention Services (EI)
Early intervention is commonly utilized with young
children who are at risk for developing a disabling condition or
have a known condition/diagnosis, or other special need that may
affect their overall development. Early intervention consists of
the provision of services for children and their families for the
purpose of lessening the effects of those conditions. Advance Therapy
Systems (ATS) services began with a thorough assessment of the child
and family needs. Services are provided in a large specialized environment
that was specially designed and built for the development and enhancement
of skills in the areas of gross motor, fine motor, sensory motor,
feeding, communication, personal-social, perceptual and self-help
skills
Specialized, Independent Assessments
(SIA)
Although many of our clients (or their caregivers)
are quite aware of their current level of ability and functional
difficulties; measurement of function is an intricate part of the
occupational therapy services. The occupational therapy assessment
begins by discussing the reason for referral or presenting problem
to determine if this type of service may help the client.
There are several areas and types of assessments;
however at ATS we concentrate in the aspects we believe are relevant
to the presenting problem that has brought you to our door. Thus,
a child who was referred for difficulties with handwriting may benefit
from an assessment that explores several areas of performance including
visual perception, hand skills, motor coordination, and sensory
processing among others. An institution may be interested in exploring
seating alternatives, hoists, or adaptive equipment to increase their
clients overall independence and quality of life.
Occupational therapists use a variety of assessment
methods including interviews, questionnaires, developmental histories,
observations of performance, and standardized testing. Advance Therapy
Systems (ATS) has access to a variety of assessment methods to determine
what underlying problems may be contributing to difficulties.
At ATS occupational therapy assessments conclude
with a detailed report of our clinical findings. Further meetings
or telephone conversations are often scheduled to discuss anything
that may seemed too technical or that you may need clarification
with. Specialized Independent Assessments (SIA) may be expensive
for those seeking our services. Therefore, if you have received
an assessment before; the assessment report provided by other agencies
may be used by us to design a treatment plan that is suitable to
your needs.
At ATS we can also complete independent assessments
of need within the meaning of the Disability Act 2007. This service
has been provided for both families and/or the Health Service Executive
(H.S.E.). An independent assessment consist of a variety of assessment
methods including interviews, questionnaires, developmental histories,
observations of performance, and standardized testing to determine
the current level of performance as well as the services needed
within the realm of occupational therapy services. The report will
then be completed and the clinical findings will be discussed with
the family/carer.
